Supervisor: Jaci van Niekerk
I was born and raised in Cape Town and completed my Bachelors of Social Science in Economic History, Anthropology and Environmental and Geographical Science at UCT in 2018. My current research interests are related to food security and activism, as well as counter-narratives to corporate agriculture. For my Honours thesis I will be focusing on urban consumer relationships with maize and marketing techniques surrounding this food staple. I am really interested in food stories and the history that informs the way people relate to and interact with these consumer goods.
I am very passionate about film photography, which is something I have been experimenting with for the past eight years. Some of my work has been featured on both local and international platforms. I hope to be able to bring this passion into conversation with my Honours project and to produce a zine which will accompany my written thesis. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, hiking and enjoying the outdoors.
